For Guard and Reserve members

Twenty years in. Is every point on your record?

Before your 20-year letter, your retirement application or your last day, check your record against the rules: points, retired pay, DD-214s and awards. When the pilot opens, you'll get a plain list of what's missing and who fixes it.

Money line

About $682 a month

1,965 points ÷ 360 = 5.46 years. 5.46 × 2.5% = 13.65% of an estimated High-3 of $5,001.98. The 24 points in question are worth about $8.34 a month for life.

  1. Likely gap Points, year ending Mar 13, 2013: 47 points, 3 short of a qualifying year. P5
  2. Likely gap DD-214, Feb 1, 2022 to May 15, 2022: 104 continuous days and no DD-214 on file covers it. DAFI 36-3202, Table A2.1 O1
  3. Likely gap Longevity award: 3 on record; the rules support 4 (19 satisfactory years ÷ 4). M1
  4. Needs a check Points, year ending Mar 13, 2024: 29 active points posted, but only 14 days of orders are listed for the year. P13

The moments to check your record

  1. Every anniversary year

Your points statement shows the year's points. A year counts as one of your 20 qualifying years only with 50.

    10 U.S.C. 12732(a)(2)
  2. After a tour of 90 days or more

A DD-214 should follow for 90 or more continuous days. So should a tour of more than 30 days on a named contingency.

    DAFI 36-3202, Table A2.1; DoDI 1336.01 ¶3.2.a
  3. Your 20-year letter

The 90-day window for your RCSBP election begins the day you receive it.

    10 U.S.C. 1448(a)(2)(B)
  4. Your retirement application

Your retired pay is figured from the points on your record.

    10 U.S.C. 12733, 12739
  5. Age 60, or earlier

Each 90 days of qualifying duty after January 28, 2008 can move your pay age 3 months earlier, down to 50.

Points

Why are points missing from my statement?

Points post from orders and drill records, so an order that never posted means points that never posted. A year counts toward the 20 you need only with 50 points.

What counts toward reduced retirement age?

Each 90 days of qualifying duty after January 28, 2008 takes 3 months off age 60, down to age 50. Days can add up within one fiscal year, or two consecutive fiscal years for service after September 30, 2014.

No. MyRecordReview is an independent service, not affiliated with or endorsed by DoD, the Air Force, DFAS or the VA. Your personnel center, your unit personnel section and DFAS make the official determinations.

Do you need my CAC or portal login?
